Unmask the Exported Episerver Pages Data File

When working with migrations of data sets between different environments, or structuring new parts of your website, Episerver comes with the handy built in tool of Exporting and Importing Episerver data between different Episerver solutions.

Even though the quite newly feature of working with projects in the CMS section of Epi is here, there are still some whom prefer using the exported .episerverdata file extension for maintaining a migration as a "daily need".

The Export Data admin view.

What's the fuzz really about?

So when you export an .episerverdata file, what does it really contain? You may find out this by simply renaming the generated file into .zip and extract its content to unmask the contents beneath the file set. And voila, we get the following structure:

Simply download the .episerverdata file from Episerver admin mode, rename the file with an ending ".zip" and extract the content.

So if you're in a need to find the blobs for a site's implementation or which categories have a mismatch between two installations, you may find this appealing.
